Clermont

October 4, 1999. It began as the usual work day here at Wolsong. The news media reported to the world that the accident was a heavy water leak. The same as five years before. But we gave them false information to cover up the real accident. The same way the Tokaimura accident was covered up five days before. The government told them only 22 of us were exposed to radiation and that we all turned out fine with a clean bill of health. There were actually 29 of us.

We were exposed to an experimental acidic compound. That’s what actually leaked. We were trying to create a bomb that, when detonated, would spread the compound along with the nuclear and thermal radiation. The desired effect was for everything to work in conjunction to instantly disintegrate and then dissolve anything within
Continue reading full article ----> Reunion of the Immortals.

A Single Event

by Melvin L. Clermont

             Dear Mom,

You’re invited to our 10th anniversary celebration. See you there.

Four months ago, limousine driver Michael Rolecks had his identity stolen and his life had steadily declined into shambles. His credit and reputation had been ruined along with his bank accounts. Any money and property he had systematically disappeared. He asked for help from a few select individuals because he helped them in the past when they needed it and he thought they’d return the favor. But that didn’t happen. A lifelong Christian, he sought assistance from his church as a last resort but even they shunned him.

The summer sun had set and the twilight began on the cloudless Miami evening as Michael parked a black Cadillac Escalade EXT into the unlit empty two-car garage of his two-story, peach and mint green Art Deco home.
Continue reading full article ----> A Single Event (with revision).

Transplant

by Melvin L. Clermont

Today was the most smashing Thanksgiving Day I had ever seen and I thought it would be cold. But it was quite warm, around 50 degrees, without a cloud in the sky and a welcome breeze. A far cry from what I was used to. Just up the street, the Macy’s balloons were in the air, waiting to be taken for their annual morning walk to entertain all of these families that had come to see them. The floats were ready to be taken for a ride so admirers such as myself could marvel at their presence. Celebrities got themselves camera-ready while balloon handlers and marching bands got in formation. Float drivers also idled their vehicles before the excitement began.

Police allowed tourists to take photos of the parade stars before they went into action with the American Museum
Continue reading full article ----> Transplant.

Dodo

by Melvin L. Clermont

Known for its breathtaking ocean views, white sand beaches, and beautiful tropical landscape, the African island paradise of Mauritius was the only place on Earth to find the famously extinct dodo bird. Humans, and the animals that accompanied them, discovered the island centuries ago and wiped them out. So say the history books. On the east coast of Mauritius is the district of Flacq, popular for its dense, grassy plains and large rock mountains nestled within. At the base of one of these, a couple is preparing to scale to the top.

“Alright,” said Jim, a typical-looking young American male, dressed in climbing gear, wearing a large backpack the size of his body. “Looks like we’re all set. Just gotta be super extra careful since we’re hauling up all this crap on our backs. Especially mine.”

“That so-called crap is paying for this
Continue reading full article ----> Dodo.
