i’ve been reading a lot of digital comics lately as i try to wrap up marvel’s decimation storyline and move on to civil war. son of m and new avengers were the best of the bunch. x-factor is the worst. not due to bad writing because peter david always delivers. it’s just the characters are uninteresting. can’t go wrong with bendis and the avengers but he still has to work on consistency in his dialogue. like, luke cage can’t be talking proper in one panel and then slangin’ it up in the next. that’s been a problem with bendis since ultimate spider-man. sure, the guy can write but the editors should be giving him suggestions to improve rather than give him free reign. if it’s their job to edit, they should edit.
i don’t have complete collections of some storylines so what i do is download the digital versions since local and online comic shops don’t have what i want at the price that i want. i’d gladly pay for a legit digital version but not anything more than a dime to fifty cents in cost. a buck is excessive for something that consists of zeros and ones and that would likely only be read once. gimme a fair price or let me name my own price and we got a deal. after civil war, i’ll still need to finish annihilation. from there, i can move on to old universe DC, starting with identity crisis. yeah, i’m that far behind. i’ve read some books from the new 52 and so far haven’t been impressed. i’ll get the trades for most titles like justice and planet hulk. digital will never replace the feeling of having a book in my hands to read and reference at anytime. tablets aren’t the answer either. there will have to be another piece of tech that doesn’t exist yet that will allow for comfortable, full-page reading. when that’s introduced, digital will have a real future.
pedicabbing is going great. after looking at my records, i started the biz at the beginning of december for 3 grand and it’s all paid for already strictly with money i made from pedicabbing. didn’t even take a month and a half for me to recoup every penny i put into it. i love it. i had a productive meeting with someone important that gave me some pointers. let’s just say that i was told to tone down how i write about my experiences working on orange county convention center property. it was all completely understandable and agreeable. a lot of things i can’t talk about for the sake of privacy but it’s nice to know there are people on my side rather than the plethora of haters that come out of the woodwork when a guy, specifically a black guy, achieves success in life.
this coming month will be extremely busy. there are major conventions every single weekend through the end of february. i’m looking forward to every one of them, mainly the nba jam session. that should be gangbusters. i’ve taken that whole month off from my regular job because i ain’t missing out on the money or the fun. and with this warm weather, unlike the last 2 freezing cold winters, it should be a very pleasant experience for all parties involved. as for the physical pedicab itself, i’m starting the beginning phases of advertising. i’m gonna get more professional side panels and some signs showing that people or businesses can advertise on my pedicab since, for the most part, i’m a mobile billboard. i may even get a shirt and wear that when i ride showing the same thing. it’s gonna be a slow roll for sure but at least i’m setting up the foundation for it. gotta get that money any way you can get it. during that meeting i mentioned above, i was also informed of upcoming conventions that aren’t announced to the general public and these are major conventions from major corporations. naturally, i can’t give out any deets but what i can say is that i love orlando! starting a pedicab business is one of the smartest choices i ever made. when will i get more trailers? let me get the advertising started first and then we can talk.
speaking of the nba jam session, the all-star weekend will be a tricky one. i’d like to be able to enjoy the festivities rather than just ride a pedicab since there will be events at the convention center and downtown. it’s unlikely i’ll be getting in to see the all-star game at the amway. and i won’t ride downtown for it either. there’s just too much parking within walking distance of the amway and not enough people compared to the convention center where i’ll be riding all four days. what’s unknown at this point is what the hours of the jam session are. if there’s gonna be a viewing party of the all-star game at the jam session, i’m all in. if not, i’d like to be able to get home in time to watch it on tv, meet up with some peeps at a sports restaurant, or even go downtown if there’s a place they’re setting up to view it for people who can’t get into the game. there’s some sort of comedy show taking place during the jam session but there aren’t many deets about it as far as who’s performing. i got some kevin hart tickets for the night before the jam session at the hard rock and he’s always a riot. i also bought tickets for george lopez in march at the same venue. got ‘em both at the box office to avoid those ridiculous ticketmaster fees. can’t beat high-quality stand-up comedy. i haven’t really done anything extracurricular beyond going to the movies in a while so i’m looking forward to seeing them both again and i’ll be keeping my eyes open for the jam session schedule. i wanna make my dough but i also wanna have fun. this is a once in a lifetime event. i missed the last one when it was here. too young and too poor at the time.
